About this place
On a headland looking over Ike-no-ura, the closest of the 125 shrines to the sea. Tradition holds that Princess Yamatohime, returning from Shima, received an offering at this bay, named the deity Awamiko-no-Kami and founded the shrine. It once stood on an island in the bay; after damage from high waves it was moved to its present site. The shrine lies within the grounds of the Umi-no-Cho inn, so visitors should speak to the front desk before walking through.
