About this place

At the eastern foot of Mount Otonashi. The name comes from the inlet here, and from the pines ringing that inlet the shrine has long been known locally as Makie-no-Myojin. The deities are those of the land, governing the harvest. Tradition holds that Princess Yamatohime, arriving by boat from the salt fields, asked the name of the place from the deity who met her, and founded the shrine.
