About this place
The estate where the hemp cloth, aratae, offered at the Kanmiso festival is woven. In the Yahirodono here, four men work the looms at the start of May and October. Hemp thread breaks more or less easily with the humidity, so the weather governs how fast the work goes; when it falls behind, weaving carries on into the night. Locally the shrine is called Kami-Hataden, the upper weaving hall, and it is the counterpart to Kanhatorihatadono-jinja, where the silk is woven.
