About this place

A grove that looks like a green island afloat in the paddy fields, known as Miyata-no-mori. Past a basin hollowed from stone, a winding approach leads to a small sanctuary. The name Kuchira is understood as 'to dwell within' — the wood in which the deity dwells. Known as a shrine for rain: in a long drought the villagers would sound gongs and drums here and call for it.
