At the entrance to the inn district of Futami, on the western foot of Mount Otonashi. When Princess Yamatohime came to this place, the local deity Samitsuhime-no-Mikoto offered her hard salt, and the shrine was founded in consequence — the origin of the salt-making at Futami that still supplies Jingu. In the telling, the deity answered none of the princess's questions and offered the salt in silence, read as a small resistance to giving up the land she had opened.
