About this place

On the plateau known as Omahiro, now ringed by housing. First in rank among the 16 sessha of Geku, its sanctuary is rebuilt every twenty years and its rites are as numerous as those of an auxiliary shrine. The deity is the spirit of the sword said to have been carried by Owakako-no-Mikoto, distant ancestor of the Watarai family, when he subdued the province of Koshi. It became the foremost sessha in 1210, when Tsukiyomi-no-miya was raised to auxiliary rank. Omakunari-jinja, second in rank, stands on the same grounds.
