About this place
East of the Gojoden hall, worshipped as a stone set on two low steps. It has no building, preserving the older practice of treating a rock as the seat of the deity. Shishi means the four bounds of the sacred ground, and the deity guards the precinct as a whole. Once worshipped at sixteen separate places, it was brought together into one in the Meiji period.
