Some 200 m from the Uji bridge, up twelve stone steps, where a camphor tree more than two metres thick spreads its branches over the sanctuary. The deity enshrined is one of mountains — which older writers found odd, given that the shrine's name means “great water”. Kawaai-jinja and Kumabuchi-jinja share its single sanctuary.
