About this place

On the hill just west of Ushiozaki pond; the name records that the shrine stands above a slope. A gentle flight of stone steps leads to the sanctuary, known locally as Sakadai-san. The deity guards the sacred rice fields of Naiku: tradition holds that he met Princess Yamatohime as she came up the Tokida river and offered her the Tanoue rice land. That field remained Jingu's until the Meiji era.
