A long approach through a stand of straight cedars leads to the sanctuary. Locals know it by the name of its site, Shiroki-san. The deities enshrined here guard the sacred gardens of Jingu; tradition holds that Princess Yamatohime, travelling down the Miyagawa river, was presented with a garden here and founded the shrine. From the Onin era its rebuilding lapsed and even the location of the grounds was lost; the site was searched out again in the Edo period, and the shrine moved to its present place in 1694.
