About this place

On a hill the locals call Sugi-no-mori, up eighty-eight stone steps. The deity's name derives from the Pleiades, a sign that people here once read the stars to divine the fortunes of the farming year. The grounds overlap the Asakuda burial mounds, where more than twenty round and square tombs have been found. On a clear day the three peaks of Ise stand out to the west.
