It shares a single building with Mifune-jinja and enshrines two guardians of the Tokida river. Samukawa, the name they carry, is an old name for that river; tradition holds Princess Yamatohime gave it because the water ran cold. A stone lantern set up in 1843 stands at the entrance to the grounds.
