About this place

The site is itself a burial mound — a keyhole-shaped tomb known as Kurumazuka No. 1. This shrine stands inside the same fence as Tanoeomizu-jinja but faces east while its neighbour faces south. It enshrines Miyako, daughter of the ancestor of the Geku priestly house, said to have served the imperial priestess. Locally the place is called Kurumazuka or Maruyama.
