About this place

On the summit of Mount Koidoguchi, south of the Kozaki coast. It enshrines Arasakihime-no-Mikoto, guardian of this shoreline; the shrine now stands further inland than its original site, yet the sound of the waves still reaches the precinct. On this coast the nieumi rite was performed, gathering offerings from the sea for Amaterasu. Komori-jinja and Arasaki-jinja share the sanctuary; because komori also means “caring for a child”, prayers for conception and safe birth have long been brought here.
