Just inside the grounds of Kami-no-Yashiro, the local tutelary shrine, on the right of the entrance. Together with Okochi-jinja in the same enclosure and the matsusha Uchikake-jinja, it was revered as guardian of the embankment that protected the district from the floods of the Miyagawa river. The name Shitomi is likewise thought to come from a word meaning “to be steeped in water”. Of all 125 shrines, only these three hold court rank.
