The old name of this area is Tsunagahara, and boats coming up the river once landed here; tradition holds that Princess Yamatohime came ashore at this spot. The deity enshrined is one of water. Niikawa-jinja and Iwai-jinja share its sanctuary, and with Aedohashihime-jinja and Omizu-jinja just beyond, seven shrines stand together in this small corner.
